San Francisco Opera
США
Добавлен 20 янв 2008
Founded in 1923, San Francisco Opera is the oldest surviving opera company on the West Coast and a leader in arts education and innovation.
It all started with a Neapolitan conductor, Gaetano Merola, who noticed a hunger for opera in his travels to San Francisco. He was struck with inspiration: Why not give San Francisco its very own resident opera company?
On September 26, 1923, San Francisco Opera came into being with its very first performance: a production of "La Bohème." Ever since, the company has been destination for world-class talent and incomparable artistry.

Partenope: Moving Moment with Daniela Mack
Eurimene is in love with Partenope, but Eurimene is actually Rosmira. And Rosmira is actually in love with Arsace. But Rosmira is played by Daniela Mack, who is ACTUALLY married to costar Alek Shrader (like, in real life) who plays Emilio. Sort of a love... hexagon?
"Mack as Eurimene convincingly impersonates a swaggering man who is nonetheless both lovelorn and revenge-seeking. Her burnished mezzo-soprano brings heartfelt poignance to the dual role." (SF Chronicle)

Singing a Handel aria is hard enough on its own. Now imagine singing a Handel aria while hanging over a doorframe with a cigarette in your mouth because... well, why not? “[Alek] Shrader’s comic body language was as virtuosic as his singing - one aria sung with a cigarette in his lips, another while he was half-stuck in the transom of a water closet (don’t ask).” (SF Classical Voice)
Partenope: Moving Moment with Carlo Vistoli

"[Carlo] Vistoli has an unusually rich countertenor, with breathtaking dynamic control and, like Fuchs, complete command of florid singing. His Arsace, torn between two women, manages to be both funny and ruefully touching." (SF Chronicle) Learn more at www.sfopera.com/operas/partenope/
Partenope: Moving Moment with Julie Fuchs

“[Julie] Fuchs’ bright soprano can toss off complex, highly decorated arias with near-perfect execution of the runs, turns and trills they require ... the soprano’s beauty and acting skill, not to mention her gorgeous outfits, made her changeable, flirtatious Partenope wholly convincing.” (SF Chronicle) Learn more at www.sfopera.com/operas/partenope/

"Mezzosoprano Ruxandra Donose is the opera’s defining center of gravity as a waitress who recognizes the family of the student who murdered her daughter" (SF Chronicle). Here, she confronts the student's father (Rod Gilfry).

I was fortunate to witness, and enjoy the Premiere at Dallas Opera. An incredible work and production! Music and voices were magnificent, and stagecraft was years ahead. Just incredible!!
Pretty singing with her old choir. the joy on her face and those great kids, very special moment. thank you for sharing. i must admit, had tears of joy watching that.
Ruxandra Donose sounded fantastic live. A great performance.
Horrible. It flattened Mozart's masterpiece into two-dimensional meaninglessness.
Really disappointed. The music was overshadowed by the visuals as impossible as that seems. I understand and enjoy (usually) new takes on classic operas/ballets but this was a bit over the top.
What a nightmare. Mozart flattened into meaninglessness.
This production was goddamned amazing.
It had to be Handel, titan of baroque opera
BRAVO Shrader!
This opera was incredibly good! ❤❤
I remember her while she was with Africa Sings in Witbank conducted by George Lolly Mohlala. She was a soloist there.
This was amazing! Very disturbing, beware, but amazing.
This was one of my all-time favorite outings with my oldest 2 kids when they were little. Please consider staging another production so that my youngest can see it!
It's great they stay in character with the hat drop.
Such an inspiration ❤ if Pretty would come to my school specifically the Music centre i swear everyone would faint😊
Seeing it this Thursday! DEFINITELY not your traditional Magic Flute, but who cares? It's Mozart, it's Magic Flute, it's Opera. What is not to love?
Very powerful voices in this school choir ....beautiful 👌
Voice of an angel. Like a balm for the soul, still pretty, Pretty. Extremely proud of her.
Silent film vibes 😂 Reminds me of Fritz Lang's Nibelungen
This GIIRL HAS GOT IT WE ARE PROUD ON YOU . JUST STAY HUMBLE .
A powerful (if unrelentingly grim!) piece of theatre. Definitely an experience I’ll remember forever.
I did not enjoy this very grim opera about the after effects of a school shooting. I left very worried about my grandchildren in this gun laden country.
fantastic symposium !
NO !!
No what?
I saw this production in Berlin. Brilliant!!!!
You are phenomenal!!
It was brilliant! So creative the way animation was superimposed over the cast. Loved every minute of it.
Some really cool moments, but be prepared that the costumes and sets aren't what you would expect from a trational performance, or you may feel let down. The animation was incredibly well-executed, and the interpretation was very original. The players had to interact with it as if it were real (Papageno's cat stole the show, but Papageno didn't even have a feather in his hat). If you're expecting Bergman, the production may come off as low-budget, amateur and underwhelming. The performance is also cut in half. The singers were also a bit quiet even from orchestra seating in the sixth row. I was excited to see an opera in German because they're expensive to produce: it kinda felt like SF did it (albiet creatively) by cutting corners. The performance booklet was full of pictures of performances and Queen of the Nights all over the world: all with stunning costumes and sets. I personally would have loved to see something like that, but the visuals really stuck with me. I really enjoyed the masonic symbolism and the Monty Python-esque animation.
This is a person who cannot appreciate creativity and should go to the opera more often so he can enter with a more open mind. The show was mesmerizing. It wasn't traditional, and it made it so much better and made the music so much more central. I'm so glad I got to experience this opera.
@@gruweldaad my father on the other hand REALLY enjoyed the performance, and thought it was incredibly "innovative and made the story vivid and accessible."
Wonderful❤
I'd like to see the whole thing
15:19 such a joyful sound.
Yessir, glory to LCB
The first song i love her ending!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Loved when she sang with the students at the end. So moving, just great!
Beautiful music, beautiful woman, beautiful people. Be blessed.
Mr. Castronovo is such a superb musician and vocalist.
Thank you for this precious documentary! What a beautiful soul, vibrant performer and soaring opera singer. I also love her sharing her natural hair and happy cultural songs with the young people, and all of us!
Touching!
❤❤
Beautiful, beautiful voice. I could listen to her all day.
She’s a perfect musician! Her instrument is an extension of her brain which is intelligent and vast. Her Imogene in 2002 was awesome too!
Saw the production in Helsinki. Great!
Bravo!!!!!!
Looks horrible.
It was.
Oh dear, the suffering with Wagner voices never ends. Over-sung sopranos trying with their last ounce of strength to sing the right notes - and failing.
❤❤❤❤❤
You have THAT voice, you have THAT bass-baritone, and at the climax of one of the most volcanically soaring musical moments in any canon, you turn him upstage for extra-textual stage minutiae..........?
Looks great!
Lousy Opera :(
Yende please find God , you have not turned your back on your people because of that you will always know the way Home.
